COTTONWOOD RIVERFRONT DOG PARK ASSOCIATION

Mayor Diane Joens had the honor of participating in the Cottonwood Riverfront Dog Park Association's  magnificent Verde Valley Dog Appreciation Day Nov. 10, 2007. (See photos below.) Many thanks to the Cottonwood Riverfront Dog Park Association and their partners for making this community event a reality. The event was held in the Dog Park behind Cottonwood City Hall. Dogs for adoption were presented by the Verde Valley Humane Society, Camp Verde Humane Society, Greyhounds of the Verde Valley and other local rescue agencies. During the day there was a Search and Rescue Dog demo, Cottonwood Police K-9 demo with Officer Ron Ekholm and Vendo, and dog training demos. The Airpark Animal Hospital sponsored exclusive “Dog Day” offers, doggie nail trims were available and the Verde Valley Agility Club gave lessons. Product vendors offered the latest and greatest items for attendees' special dogs. Yavapai County Supervisor Chip Davis performed a doggie wedding when “Abbie” and “Murphy," a local canine couple, tied the knot! The superbly musical "Blue Notes" provided live music. Mayor  Joens, Cottonwood City Manager Marianne Jimenez and Clarkdale Foundation Chair Henri Prud'homme judged contests for best tail wagger, the pet that most resembled their human, largest dog, smallest dog, and best trained dog. There were lots of other doggie games and contests. Mixed in with all this excitement there was a variety of great raffles for some very exciting prizes.
