A grand opening for Willard Extension was held by the City of Cottonwood on Feb. 20, 2009. Willard Extension is a major transportation corridor in Cottonwood, has six-foot sidewalks on both sides, regulation bicycle lanes, plus two full traffic lanes. The box culvert at the crossing of Silver Springs Wash will allow Willard Extension to accommodate traffic even when the flow of water through Silver Spring Gulch will flood 6th Street.

For a successful project, many thanks to community members of Cottonwood; Mayor Diane Joens; Vice-Mayor Karen Pfeifer; Council Members Terence Pratt, Duane Kirby, Tim Elinski, Linda Norman, and James Chapman; City Manager Doug Bartosh; Public Works Director Tim Costello, City Engineer Morgan Scott, Inspector Dave Enright, Streets Supervisor Claude Lankford, and all Public Works staff; Utilities Director Dan Lueder and staff; Contractor Arizona Earthmovers, Connor Moody; Engineer Shepard Wesnitzer, Joe Link and Jim Binick. Many thanks to the Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition for their participation in and support of the project. Of course, Willard Street Extension is a great example of a public/private project with thanks to Ron Kohan and the partners of the Cottonwood Business Park.
