Mayra Garcia led the Pledge of Allegiance at the Oct. 16, 2007 City Council Meeting. She is a 15-year-old sophomore at Mingus with a 4.0 GPA. Recently, as a third year member, she was elected president of the Cottonwood Youth Advisory Commission. She teaches a girls' bible study and is a youth leader in her youth group. This year, Mayra anticipates a wonderful year in which she can help guide the commission towards bigger and better things according to their motto: "Dream Big!" After graduating from Mingus, Mayra hopes get accepted into Western Bible College to earn a Bachelor's degree in religion and theology with the hopes of someday becoming a pastor of her own church.


 
 

Tim Costello received the Employee of the Quarter Award for his work with the Stewards of Public Lands. He has shown remarkable leadership and diligence on behalf of the Stewards. His efforts have made a tremendous difference in cleaning up public lands on behalf of the citizens of Cottonwood. He organized the cleanup of abandoned cars in the Black Canyon Wash, thus reducing the potential of wildfires and improving the area so that citizen can enjoy walking, hiking and other recreational activities on our public lands in this area.

 

 

Jim Wixom was awarded the third quarter safety employee. Jim has an excellent safety record with the Public Works Department. In his daily operations in the Street Division, numerous types of equipment are used to perform his job. He is also subjected to many hazards while working in the rights of way. He makes good use of all safety equipment provided, and demonstrates good judgment while working in traffic areas. Jim's good safety habits are a morale booster for the department.
