City of Cottonwood Sponsors Free Greywater and Rainwater Harvesting Lecture Series

It was standing room only when water harvesting expert and author, Brad Lancaster spoke to an amazed crowd of over 150 people in Clarkdale last April.  He shared his personal story of harvesting 100,000 gallons of rainwater a year and how he created an oasis on his 1/8th acre lot in Tucson without the need for any additional water!  Using statistics and unbelievable photos, he passionately described the benefits of capturing rainwater rather than treating it as a nuisance to be shunted past the land to impermeable city streets and sewers.

Due to the success of Lancaster’s presentation, the City of Cottonwood has invited him to return, along with greywater expert/consultant/author, Art Ludwig.  Both these international experts will speak at a free public lecture at Mingus High School on Thursday, October 11th at 6:30pm.  This intriguing lecture will leave you inspired and wondering why we haven’t been harvesting water sooner.

The following morning, Friday, October 12th at 6:30am, at a free breakfast seminar, Ludwig & Lancaster will address the community’s builders, landscapers and plumbers on the latest technology and wisdom of greywater systems.  In 2005, the City of Cottonwood passed an ordinance requiring all new single-family residences to be plumbed to accommodate greywater use.  Unfortunately many building trades don’t know how to optimize this important strategy or how to market it to prospective buyers.  This workshop at the Public Safety Building on Friday, October 12th, at 6:30am will discuss design and installation of greywater systems, building codes, marketing, and tax credits.

Finally, for those who really want to get their hands wet, on Saturday, October 13th from 9am to 1pm, Ludwig and Lancaster will conduct a hands-on workshop on water harvesting.  Participants will learn how to design and install such systems and see finished and in-progress projects.  Cost is $40.  For more information on the series & to register for the Design/Install Breakfast for the trades, as well as the hands-on workshop, go to:  http://www.greenteamaz.com/Save_Water_WORKSHOPS/page_1904395.html
